I love the spring, (who doesn’t?) - everything fresh and new - planting things in the garden, watching things we have planted grow up again and blossom - The plum tree, crab apple, the rosemary just starting to flower that lovely bluey colour, the purple chive flowers in the herb garden just waiting to pop, camellias, white and purple wisteria, rhododendrons, first roses budding…..the elder just starting to show new leaves…and then the elderflowers. I pick them every year and make cordial to serve at events and at home of course, it’s great in a G&T or with Prosecco. I use berries later on to make jelly for the start of the game season.
At this time of year I’m always thinking back to past weddings and events and what bits created the most WOWs.
I have run quite a few, more outdoors-y type weddings over the last few years. A Woodland Wedding by the most gorgeous country cottage springs to mind - a scorching July day, a humanist ceremony under a hazel arch while the guests sat on wooden chairs with speakers reading beautiful poetry. Certainly one of the most romantic weddings I have had the joy of being part of. Everyone felt the love that day.
The wedding feast was rustic but elegant, canapés served on wooden boards and logs which I have collected over the years.
Tables settings were plain white with hessian runners, jam jar meadow flowers picked that morning, more hazel and willow to adorn the tables and bar and keeping the woodland theme, green and smoke coloured glassware, string coloured linen napkins completed the theme.
On the food side, I like things to be simple - not “over-do”or “over prep”- keep things looking a bit how they started out. Asparagus, just cooked, keeping it’s beautiful colour- new season lamb and Jersey Royal potatoes.
Then a delicious chocolate brownie stack wedding cake served on logs with gorgeous roses to decorate. Simple but stunning.
The bride and groom planted acorns from their oak trees and each guest was given an oak seedling as a memento. Lovely personal ideas are great for making your guests feel extra special and remembering those special things about your wedding.
